The Mission of the Haywood Jackson Volunteer Center is to promote community service by engaging volunteers and linking them to opportunities addressing community needs.

HAYWOOD COUNTY

AMERICAN RED CROSS- HAYWOOD CO CHAPTER
Volunteer Needs: Bloodmobile drive help

AMERICAN YOUTH SOCCER ORGANIZATION(AYSO)
Mission: is to develop and deliever quality youth soccer programs which promote an fun, family environment based on Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development.
Vounteer Needs: Assistance in initial layout of fields, weekly painting of soccer fields(2-3 hours a week), Referees and help with concession stand.

THE ARC OF HAYWOOD COUNTY
Mission: Is to serve and enrich the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc encourages individuals to identify their hopes and dreams and provides the program services to achieve them.
Volunteer Needs: people to serve on committees and special events

AUTUMN CARE
Mission: Provide quality care for all our residents at the skilled nursing and rehab center.
Volunteer Needs: Help with individual or group activities, play an instrument or sing, delivery mail, refill water pitchers; sit on the porch with residents, or other activities depending on interest.

BIG BROTHERS/ BIG SISTERS
Mission: to develop children’s self esteem and character through volunteer mentoring programs and friendship to help them achieve their highest potential
Volunteer Needs: adults to develop a one on one relationship with a youth by offering consistency, encouragement and role modeling.

BETHEL RURAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION
Mission: To help the people of the Bethel Community and to support and enhance the rural lifestyle.
Volunteer Needs: Manna Food Bank, Historical and Heritage Tours and community and school outreach

CANTON CHRISTIAN CONVALESCENT CENTER
Mission: To provide a nurturing, caring environment for our residentsand to provide quality of life ehancing activities.
Volunteer Needs: Bingo Callers

CANTON SENIOR CENTER
Volunteer Needs: sit with a senior, adult education, help with classes.

CIRCLES OF HOPE
Mission: Circles of Hope of Haywood County is designed to not only help families and individuals get out of poverty, but to initiate changes in the community that result in eliminating barriers to economic stability.
Volunteer Needs: food, transportation, childcare, Ally, serve on an guiding CoalitionTeam

FRANCIS GRIST MILL
Mission: Restore and preserve the 127 year Francis Grist Mill
Volunteer Needs: speaker for education programs, assist with special events(parking, tickets)

FRIENDS OF THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

Mission: Assist the National Park Service in it's mission to preserve and protect the Great Smoky Mountains National Park by raising funds and public awareness, and providing volunteers for needed projects.
Volunteer Needs: Community outreach, data entry, making phone calls, and a variety of other needs. 

THE GOOD SAMARITAN CLINIC/ MOUNTAINTOP HEALTH CARE
Mission: Primary Care for 18-64 age adults that is uninsured.
Volunteer Needs: Nurses, front desk reception, filing, book-keeping

GREATER HAYWOOD COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Mission: Fostering growth of business in Haywood County and visitor information services to welcome guests and help promote our tourism partners
Volunteer Needs: front desk greeter, help prepare special events, office work

GUARDIAN AD LITEM
Mission: is to provide trained independent advocates to represent and promote the best interests of abused, neglected and dependent children in the court system and to work towards a plan that ensures that these children are in a safe, permanent home.

HAYWOOD CHRISTIAN MINISTRY
Mission: To provide care in the name of Jesus Christ to persons in crisis. To be a clearinghouse for outreach concerns that are shared by the churches of Haywood County and to offer spiritual and material assistance to extent those resources are available through the cooperating churches and volunteers.
Volunteer Needs: Receptionist, interviewer, food pantry worker, client’s clothing worker, sorter of donations, cleaning, grounds maintenance and furniture pick-up worker.

HAWA SPAY/NEUTER
Mission: Serving the community by providing low-cost spay/neuter services
Volunteer Needs: Office/computer help, feral cat trapping, crate cleaning and bi-weekly spay neuter transport support


HAYWOOD COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL
Mission: The Arts Council is dedicated to providing arts opportunities that enhance the quality of life for adults, children, families and visitors.
Volunteer Needs: office assistant, ticket office and a variety of other needs

HAYWOOD COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Mission: Our mission is to improve the health of Haywood County citizens.
Volunteer Needs: Have three action teams that meet once a month for two Hours. Action teams change every four years to address the health concerns in the community. Help at various events also needed and not necessary to attend monthly meetings to do so.

HAYWOOD CO. PUBLIC LIBRARY
Mission: Haywood Co. Public Library is a center for lifelong learning.  
Volunteer Needs: Shelf Elf, Computer Coach, Homework Tutor, Story Time Assistant, Job Coach, Housekeeping Helper, Grounds-keeping Aide, Special Event Assistant, Billingual Storyteller and Special Performers/Instructors

HAYWOOD HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Mission: Eliminate sub-standard housing in Haywood County
Volunteer Needs: House building, Family Advocate (mentoring our partner families), committee and Board work.

HAYWOOD HISTORIC FARMERS MARKET, SPONSORED BY WAYNESVILLE PUBLIC MARKET INC.
Mission: to promote local agriculture and to provide a viable market for farmers, heritage crafters and others as well as to be a reliable source of healthy, fresh food to the community.    
Volunteer Needs: Marketing Director, Tax preparer, Special programs, Market Manager and Assistant Manager

HAYWOOD COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS
Mission: to provide hot nutritious meal once per day, five times a week to the homebound elderly and disabled adults throughout Haywood County.
Volunteer Needs: drivers for routes and fill in drivers

HAYWOOD COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Volunteer Needs: coaches for a variety of sports

HAYWOOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER AUXILIARY

HAYWOOD WATERWAYS ASSOCIATION
Mission: Promote awareness for clean streams and restoration work.
Volunteer Needs: VWIN water sampling, stream restoration work, water shed planning, public education.

HEALTHY HAYWOOD
Mission: a collaborative community partnership dedicated to improving the overall health status of Haywood County residents.

THE GREAT LAURELS OF JUNALUSKA
Mission: to provide affordable housing for seniors
Volunteer Needs: visit a senior, assist with lifting chairs and tables, assist with small household choirs and minor projects.

KIDS ADVOCACY RESOURCE EFFORT (KARE INC)
Mission: ending child abuse and neglect through advocacy, education and support.
Volunteer Needs: administrative/clerical, facility maintenance.

LifeWORKS with CWJC
Mission: is a ministry to challenge women to overcome adversities and reach their goals of integrity with the love of God through mercy and grace.
Volunteer Needs: mentor/coach, various duties in office, teacher positions

MAGGIE VALLEY CHAMBER
Mission: promote businesses throughout Maggie Valley & Haywood County
Volunteer Needs: answering phones, greeting visitors, volunteers for special events.

MEDWEST MEDICAL CENTER HOSPICE
Mission: provide quality, compassionate care to dying patients and their families.
Volunteer Needs: Administrative volunteers assist with supportive office responsibilities, Bereavement volunteers offer supportive contacts to family members grieving, Chaplains are volunteers certified to offer spiritual support, Friends of Hospice volunteers help with fundraising and event planning, Patient/family volunteers provide respite and companionship; Youth volunteers are age 14-18 with responsibilities similar to administWe will need volunteers to work at The Homestead – mainly for front desk/reception and patient visits/baking/reading, etc. We would like to have the front desk/reception area covered with two shifts per day, Mon-Fri (8-12, 12-4:30), if possible. This position would greet visitors, do some administrative work, give building tours, and other duties. Front desk volunteers will not be required to answer the telephone. Volunteers in this position could also do some baking if desired because the kitchen is in close proximity to the reception desk. The times are flexible but would require a weekly commitment. We will depend heavily on the front desk volunteers so we ask that you dedicate a specific day/time each week to provide coverage. This volunteer will be the “face” of The Homestead - you will be the first person visitors see and talk to.

MOUNTAIN MEDIATION SERVICES
Mission: provide affordable and high quality mediation for community.
Volunteer Needs: mediators for community, separation/divorce, group facilitation and youth training.


MOUNTAIN PROJECTS
Senior Companion- assist a senior and receives a stipend (income requirements) that does not affect your social security.
Foster Grandparent- assist a child at a school and receives a stipend (income requirements) that does not affect your social security.

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE BUGLE CORPS
Volunteer Needs: assist with volunteering to educate the public while being among the elk at Cataloochee.

NC BARTRAM TRAIL SOCIETY
Mission: to establish and maintain an eighty mile long memorial hiking trail in honor of William Bartram, following a route close as possible to Bartram’s original route through Western North Carolina.
Volunteers Needs: to accomplish the maintenance and repair activities of the trail.

THE OPEN DOOR/SECOND BLESSING THRIFT SHOP
Mission: to help restore hope to all who come through our doors, by encounters with love and delivering power of Jesus Christ. 

Volunteer Needs: volunteers to sort through donations and place them in thrift shop, at kitchen to help provide meals to guests.

PIGEON COMMUNITY MULTICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Mission: to promote and facilitate harmony among residents of our community, by helping to re-establish the long standing tradition of family.
Volunteer Needs: volunteers to help with fundraising projects, youth after school tutoring

REACH OF HAYWOOD COUNTY
Mission: to provide safety for victims of domestic violence/sexual assault and to empower survivors to achieve self-sufficiency in a violence-free and stable environment.
Volunteer Needs: crisis hotline workers, thrift store workers, office workers

SARGE’S ANIMAL RESCUE FOUNDAINION
Mission: to save animals sent to the Haywood County Animal Shelter from euthanasia.
Volunteer Needs: foster homes, shelter workers, rescue transport, grooming and foster pet sitting.

SMOKY MTN HEALTH CARE & REHAB CENTER
Volunteer Needs: weekend people to answer the phone, greet visitors, also people during the week to help with activities and visit with residents.

SOCIETY OF ST. ANDREWS OF WNC
MISSION: salvage good fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste and give them to people that are hungry
Volunteer Needs: Gleaning/harvesting produce, distributing food

STAR RANCH

Mission: To provide a safe haven for abused, neglected, starved horses of Haywood Co.

Volunteer Needs: groomers, cleaners, feeders


THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN
Mission: provide hot meals to those in need and help renew hope in people.
Volunteer Needs: Cooks, servers, cleaners, greeters

WAYNESVILLE PARKS AND REC
Mission: to promote quality recreation opportunities for all citizens of the greater Waynesville area.
Volunteer Needs: concession stand operator, front desk greeter/answer phones
